Wheels 07:01
“Wheels” When I was a little boy I wore a bucket on my head and I had a lawnmower that blew bubbles it’s amazing that I didn’t end up dead I thought I was my own stunt double I’d ride my tricycle off the porch and end up in the trees jump off the picnic table land in the kiddie pool on my bare knees Wheels wheels wheels Always ending up with a raw deal They break my bones I gotta leave those goddamn wheels alone I gotta leave those goddamn wheels alone When I was eight years old I had my birthday party at a roller rink we had lots of balloons and soda pop to drink my friend and I were playing hockey and he checked me into the wall I fell down and broke my wrist when I took that fall through tears I opened presents and had a slice of cake At some point I fell asleep in at the hospital I did awake When I was 13 years old skateboarding with my good friend Pat trying to do some tricks and on the concrete I went splat the very next day my mom she pick me up in the lane I said oh geez mom I’m kind of in pain I think I broke my arm in a way we went zoom next thing I knew I was in the emergency room Driving home after work one night in high school attention I was not paying I was trying to figure out what the man on the radio is saying I caught some tractor tracks and I almost hit a deer everything went black and off the road I did steer I rolled a tiny car three times down the embankment next thing I knew I was surrounded by half the town the ambulance in the fire department Driving back from Saranac Lake where the band and I had taken a trip the 18 wheelers flew by like big white snakes and forced the sun to the rumble strips as we reached the seventh hour of the drive that took nine I lost control spun out and went over the centerline Driving through Texas in the hot sun Up walks a police officer and ruins all my fun they took my stuff and they took my baby to jail and they wouldn’t give her back until I had $1000 for bail so we reached the Louisiana border and our engine up and died so we sat on the side of the road in the rain hung our heads in our laps and cried There was a time when I didn’t drive that’s just cause I was happy to be alive now if I do I go real slow I still don’t like doing it in the rain or the snow so thanks everybody for listening to me and my whole long spiel And if you know what’s good for me you’ll keep me away from the wheel

“Minivan Cowboy” Driving around your hometown With my half baked plan & a guy named Dan Just like a cowboy in a minivan I’ve got my pod on top & I ain’t gonna stop Till I get wherever it is I’m going Don’t care if it’s raining, sleeting or snowing I’ll be there in a coupla hours To take a liquor shower Caterwaul till dawn and the top of my lungs Till the drinks are gone & my songs are sung & if I desire if I get too drunk I might expire and go sleep in my trunk Yodeling in my dreams in the Walmart parking lot Snoring till the morning light gleams & all those those freaky deaky people come to shop They rouse you awake with shock, like an alarm clock but it’s better than getting woke up by the cops Just like that morning over at the truck stop Make my rounds strap it down Attract some dirty looks and frowns Try to choke some water down before getting out of town Wake up, Gas up, Breakfast sandwich with Ketchup Fill up the cup with Coffee or coke Zone out and have a morning toke Yoda-layyyyyy-heeeeee Staring at the bottom of an empty wallet Plugging my phone into the whatchamacallit Going through the day with my head in a cloud The windows down the radios on the navigator let’s put a great big yawn and the music it plays loud Seems like I got all I want and need Good radio and a little bit of weed And underneath me is my trusty steed She’s a 2001 Toyota Sienna minivan named Goldie Hahn She’s got a big crack going down the windshield and only one wiper all the door handles are broke off The gas tank’s ratchet strapped up to the bottom The inspection is a year and half overdue Weighed down by a 5 piece band A drum set, a PA system, an upright bass, two guitar amps, a banjo, a fiddle, a guitar, a washboard, a mandolin and a dog! In god and mechanic we trusted Looks like some food on the dashboards crusted Why is everything in this vehicle busted? I’ve got a chronic bronchial cough Gonna ride it till the wheels fall off Getting high off the fumes we woft & to toll booth workers I’m never rude I’m trying not to eat too much fast food To the road in front of me my eyes are glued & in the summer I sleep in the nude & I ain’t got any curtains & when the sunshine starts shining through my sunburn starts hurting & at the end of the day the people all say hey! Who was that flasked, masked man anyway? He was kind of a hairy fella Playing in the band and driving the van A stranger in an even stranger land A stranger in an even stranger land Driving off into the sunset in his minivan

“Who Needs Em?” You can build a community you can build a prison you can build up an immunity you can build upon a vision walls keep things inside safe they keep out what is different any room can become a grave some pre-pay and say it’s money well spent on a desert island you’ll adapt you learn to swim and about yourself maybe even forget you’re trapped all the money in the world couldn’t help so you build a raft in float alone drink seawater in the hot sun start to laugh as your stomach groans and you’re ready to become the ocean suddenly bump into a wall excitedly you start to shout you think you’re saved but you’re not at all this walls intended to keep you out on the other side the people say that they value freedom on this side people starve sun poisoned who needs em?
7.
“Meat Sack Blues” It’s true I sometimes frown and I’m not so elegant sometimes I drink enough to drown a small elephant we wander around and we party we like to have some fun but what do we squander and are we proud one day is done? what do we squander and are we proud one day is done? Smoking like a chimney through crack dry lips my soul chokes within me as the time slips I’m paying a pretty penny just to make my insides black Im my own worst enemy and I’m under attack my body in a temple it’s a shotgun shack An electrical charge flowing through a Meatsack An electrical charge flowing through a Meatsack crawling on my hands and knees across the planet bumping into things that I can’t see God dammit driving my flesh car down to the corner bar so I can giggle and order me up a drink when I plop down on the stool just like I think that I’m cool If you don’t pickle yourself you’ll start to stink if you don’t pickle yourself you’ll start to stink and I’m decomposing right in front of your face I might have some closing remarks before I leave this place but until then bartender I lament the truth I’m gonna have another round I’m gonna ferment my youth while I’m above ground I’m gonna ferment in my youth while I’m above ground

“How did we let it get this far?” If we all die, I hope it doesn't happen too slow I'll dry your eyes, you look so happy in the glow We'll go deep underground, behind thick concrete walls We'll be safe and sound when the free world falls And though I know it'll never be the same Our dirges we'll sing and we'll bow our heads in shame How did we let it get this far? How did we let it get this far? When the power is gone and all we have is a few books It won't be too long before we only have a few scraps to cook Dinner from a tin can, I'm dreaming of bread it's getting to my head In a hole that's made by man, cause everyone is dead How long till we're back to the start? This family can't stop tearing each other apart What has happened tro our hearts? What has happened to our hearts? The world is dark and the hour is late With a single spark we've sealed our fate So many children and wives Gone because of bloodlust So many innocent lives Reduced to dust We've poisoned our home now nothing will grow Now we're all alone we've got no place left to go Why did we drop the bomb? Why did we drop the bomb?
10.
“Who Killed George Floyd?” Who killed George Floyd? Wasn't this something we could avoid? Justice for him and all who fell before Which side of history are you on in this war? An innocent man accused of writing a bad check A crooked cop knelt on his neck Are you surprised the murder of a man struck a nerve? Is this how police protect and serve? When the voiceless go unheard for so long That's when you change the words to the song Vocal cords raw from constant screams Falling on deaf ears are our broken dreams This houses foundation stands on a burial ground No renovations will ever make it sound How many more people have to killed Before we tear the old tenement down and rebuild Until then a lot of cities are gonna burn and be reduced to ash But those things can be replaced with hard cash A life is a precious thing once it's gone it's gone I won't be the one to tell you they're wrong Goons of the state stand tall in riot gear While the oppressed shed pepper spray tears While the folks at home blame the victim You're either against em or you're with em So which side are you on?
